with that game.

The thing is, IF you were rendering the same image, then the extra 20%
screen area wouldn't be that much of a hit....but you are normally rendering
a lot more pollies due to the fact you have a wider viewing angle (if the
game has been programmed correctly), as well as coping with the increase in
resolution....I find the hit of going from 4:3 to 16:9 (or is it 16:10 for
PCs?) to be far greater then I ever imagined it to be.

My thinking is that ATI introduces performance improvements with every driver release, and there's been 6 or 7 of them since the review. He could also drop off the AA and AF and get a performance boost there. Running 1920x1600, AA at least shouldn't be required for a good clean image. Given that, I think the X800 would run HL2 decently. Not ideal, but very playable.
