Here's the other cold reality. Office xp and up, which many universities
require has document tracking. This allows a prof to see how many times a
document was revised, how many pcs opened the document
A great number of profs view this as very important because it helps sleuth out
plagarism. It also tells them if documents have been passed around to be
'borrowed' from
Using MS Office also means one other thing: with everyone on the same standard
professors only need to know one piece of software. One of my favorite profs was 77
and I loved the guy but I can't picture him using eight pieces of software. Student
a uses OpenOffice, b uses Wordperfect, c uses MS Office, d uses AMI Pro, d
uses..... And so on. Universities like the idea of having one common platform to
work on. Because ms office on the mac and pc share file formats, it makes it
easier. Far easier then teachers ready to take EasyOffice & ClarisWorks Pro or
whatever :)
Thank you. More over, students aren't generally forced to use any
software. Loadouts are available for them, but they can and do change
as they need to. And don't forget staff - faculty and others.
