Do you have any mapped drives? If you are using a mapped drive where your
next local drive should be then the portable drive won't appear in explorer
because the drive letter is being used. It's a bug they have never fixed in
windows.

characteristic sound that lets you know the system recognizes it. Yet, if
I open My Computer or Explorer I don't find the drive, hence I can't copy
to it. If I open an app, and do a File | Save operation, I can usually
find it. But that won't work if I want to copy an either folder to the
thumb drive. Even a Right Click | Send To won't work.
What gives?
