Can you telnet to a web server's port 80 and connect? (ie, "telnet www.hardwaregroup.com 80") and then type "GET /[enter]" and have the server respond?

Could it be a proxy setting in the Internet control panel / firefox settings?

DNS problem? If you type in an IP address into Firefox/IE, does it work?

I really have no idea--odd since Firefox AND IE don't work...

I have an XP computer that won't surf with either Firefox or IE6 - both come up saying the server didn't respond. I can ping, tracert, ftp and telnet to sites with no problem, and MSN Messenger logs in.

I don't think it's the winsock, but I tried WinsockFix with no success. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling TCP/IP, uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, resetting the firewall settings, but no go. Any ideas?
