James, the bellhop still took money away from the guys. They were the ones who put in the initial $30. The till didn't go 'out of pocket' to hand the bellboy $2. That $2 still came from the guys who put up the original $30. So, each of them gave the bellboy in effect .666 cents to make up his tip. $2 didn't magically appear. When the register refunded $5, it was still refunding the clients money... Or we could say the bellboy stole $2 of their money and they go beat him up later. :).
