$25 in the till / 3 = $8.33 per person + $2 in bell hop's pocket / 3 = $0.67 per person ---------------------------------------------- = $27 Total expenditure / 3 = $9.00 per person The people started with $10 each and ended up with $1 each, so they HAD to have paid a total of $9 each. If you still don't see the logic of the problem, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. But this has been a fun discourse. :) Jim
