Well, the difference is that a copy of XP or OSX comes with support. Linux gets fairly expensive if you factor in vendor support. And, I'm not sure if you've ever had the pleasure of dealing with Red Hat support, but they're terrible. Microsoft support, on the other hand, has always been amazing to me.
