I favor Firefox over Opera mainly because of the number of extensions
available and the ability to customize it.  But either one is definitely
preferable over IE and it may be a matter of personal preference.

Firefox 3 is way better than FF2 - much less memory usage, much faster, and
just generally more polished.  And I can't live without the Remember the
Milk for Gmail extension and AdBlock Plus.
