I've got the Samsung 2253BW on my desk, it's 22 inches wide..
Close in looks and specs to the one shown from Newegg in that last
post. Mine's rated at 8000-1 ratio and 2ms, and it's been simply
great, replacing a Viewsonic I used to have...

There are different types of LCDs based on the manufacturing
process that
built them but for the most part if you are looking in the consumer
price
range you are only going to see TN+ panels which have great
response times
but medicore to decent color reproduction and limited viewing angles.
IPS or PVA displays tends to have great color reproduction (which
you need
if you are a graphics professional) and better viewing angles, but
are
generally more expensive.
