Scott/all,
I do understand your rec. Unfortunately I do not have the "eagle eyes" I once did. I tested the various resolutions I have available across the 2 clients and the server that are connected to the new panel via my kvm switch. Amazed I am that the new panel handles 3 different RES calls w/o complaint. ATM, I do accept any/all displayed oddities.

When I did try the default 1680x1050 on my main office machine (nVivia FX5500) the stuff on the desktop presentation was so small I needed a magnifying glass to read the text. Yes, the text was so very "crisp" it was almost painful to read!! LOL!!! This machine now requests/drives 1280x960x32. But, I will play some more with this machine............ :)

On my XP test machine, I selected a res of 1440x900x32. It also has an nVidia FS5500. This test machine has two main apps on it. TR-Anniversary and TR-Chronicles. Ugh! OK Lame at best. But, I've gotten much real-time feedback. I am now happy with XP, and its' propensities.

On my server I have some severe limitations. The video comes from an on-baord ATI 3D Rage IIC PCI chip. The tallest 32-bit depth it can do is 1152x864, so there it sits now. One day soon, I will find some newer plug-in PCI video card with better specs. For now, it is all OK.

All three machines look very good. The panel seems to switch/swap back and forth w/o any grumbles. The brightness came at 75; lowered to 60. The contrast came maxed out! I backed this off to 65. I'll tweak some more over the next few days. But, on the whole, this is one sweet panel. If anyone is considering a >19inch WS, please give this Dell panel a serious look/see.

And, it JUST fit on my desk where the old 17inch panel was!!! My Sister got to watch it light up. I may have to order another just to keep peace in the family!!!! LOL
Best,
Duncan

Highly recommend that you run LCD screens at their native resolution
-- in this case 1680x1050. I don't think 1600x1200 will work at all-- panels I've used will magnify, but not shrink. Since the pixels on a
LCD are actual physical things, you have a bit less flexibility in
terms of resolutions than CRTs I guess.

You should just have a normal looking desktop (but wider!), with no
stretching.
