I've been considering upgrading my home theatre system speakers (which are
all Klipsch Reference series circa 2000) b/c the front speakers are just
bookshelves (RB-5) and I wanted something bigger to match the seemingly
oversized center (RC-3; and I have the RS-3 too); but wasn't sure what to
get that would go well with the center and saw the F-3s above...or do I want
to try and find the RF-3 or RP-3/5 that went with this back then for proper
balance, or just get all new speakers and don't spend money on old stuff?

OK. Now that I see what you have, we may be talking apples and oranges.
I do recall some bad press when Klipsch did their 5.1 system(?).
I waited. I needed to see if I really needed this.............
Turns out, I believe, that the 5.1 was pushed to do 1st-gen HD-TV.
Gaming was really not part of it; but because of the wave, many folk
bought this 5.1 system AND (while gaming!) blew up their SubWoof. I do
recall reading some of the "bitch-mail."
Whatever. The past is past. Klipsch certainly did not quite see what
might happen. Well, at least that is my read. I could be very wrong, too!
I still like Klipsch. I might even sell my left-nut for a pair of
Klipsch F (corner) Horns! Even though I do NOT have a home large enough
to support same, or, have enough amplifier(s) to drive them properly.
They remain a very pleasant memory.

I will 'assume' you are talking about a 5-speaker +Subwoofer Klipsch
system. I have never used one of these. I still use my Klipsch V2.400
system and am very happy with it. I still use my original V1 Preamp
module because I (personally) find the upgraded V1.1 Preamp module to be
much less "musical." And, perhaps this is just my OLD Ears too!
I like Klipsch. I also have Logitech on my main gaming kit. I have also
used two versions of Bose. I don't need to duck, I donated my Bose stuff
to my BroInLaw!
Anthony mentioned SubWoof trouble. Yes, I do recall some trouble years
ago with Klipsch SubWoof's, but mine still plays very well (and low
smoothly!) after 8 years of use. I have never had a problem.
I suppose I could quibble about some lack of "modern-day" interfaces.
Klipsch has their own magic 2-into-4 logic. If one does not like it,
then that is the end of discussion............ :)
Personally, I run one PC on the Front channel and a 2 PC on the Surround
channel. The Klipsch doesn't care and I get great sound from both PC's.
I visit the Klipsch website every now and then just to see what's going
on. Often, I see real deals/steals on "re-conditioned" older models no
longer in the mainstream.
I do so hope that Klipsch stays in this PC marketplace. The product does
very good power with very little distortion. That is the best I can
share.
