Shrug. I've used Acronis TrueImage with Universal Restore to convert backups for use within Hyper-V with excellent results, and I've used the vSphere Standalone Converter for both P2V and VMWare Workstation to ESX migrations with good results. If all that Ghost 14 is doing is converting the backup to a VMDK disk-compatible format, the chances of success are quite a bit lower.
With regard to the duplicate machine name...yeah, I would leave the VM network disconnected until you rename the guest.
