When I went into to Best Buy looking for my 67-inch DLP LED Sammy, I
ignored every thing I saw and anything any salesman told me about the
various sets they had. I was armed with a zillion reviews from users of
the set I wanted and at the price I was willing to pay. You just can't
trust a place like Best Buy to give you a decent change to by a good
set. They want to push to you want they want you to buy. That's why they
had the set I bought hidden off by itself with dust all over the screen
(to may big advantage, mind you, as most others weren't interested but
wanted those crappy LCD Flats that were hanging all over the place).
Once I had that baby delivered the two delivery guys could not believe
their eyes after they got it setup and we popped in a Blu-ray.

I've heard good about Pani's and Samsungs, even Vizio. Still side by
side comparison is only valid in controlled situations. If the set's
not calibrated and/or the test material not varied enough it's pointless.
Amazing how if Best Buy (for example) wants to sell units that they
don't offer to plug in a BlueRay player with calibration media to show
what each set can do. Nevermind that they don't even have their
in-house certified calibrator's calibrate the floor models. More
appalling was the blocky highly compressed video "streaming off some
video service's box in the back room" over component video they used
to show off all the floor models.
Frustrating that they were not willing to let me pick 3 or 4 sets to
plug in a bluray player w/ a movie to compare. Was considering
bringing in the disc Robert Heron uses for his reviews for $10 that
has all the content needed to exercise a set properly.
This exercise came about because my dad in MN did not want to buy,
try, return since I would not be there to help him unmount/rebox the
set. So he's still watching digtal cable on a 19" Korean no-name TV. =(

Heh, even knowing they're going out of the biz and what happens if
there's a
problem and you need parts or a replacement? Especially when you've

that much $$? I've heard that the Panasonic plasmas are almost as
good,
less $$, and have pretty good warranties, fwiw...
Pioneer comes with a three year in house warranty. It is a quality
product and I haven't heard about anybody having any problems.
However, Pioneer is a serious company and they will find a way to
support it in order to preserve their great reputation. They still
have a high end line of products and they do not want to loose those
Elite buyers or make them feel abandoned.
I have looked at Panasonic side by side and they are just not the
same. Besides the Panasonic 60 inch are in the 3500 range anyway.
But that said you make some very good points.
