Just querying if there is a group member in the Boca Raton, FL area
that would be able to handle a software issue for a friend of mine.
I've tried helping via phone (I'm in CT), but neither my buddy, Dennis
nor the hired PC 'specialist' seem to be able to do some very simple
tasks.

First off, Dennis is a Jewish Lawyer working in Boca. He only does
Condo Associations and doesn't really want to get involved in the
dirtier side of lawyerdom. He is also perfectly helpless when it
comes to PCs. His hired PC help, a guy unfortunately named Steve, was
having problems with simple tasks like finding a file to send me.

Okay, to the problem: The last time Dennis bought a word processor
was in 1988 (yes, you read that right). He bought PFS: Professional
Write (upgrading from the PFS: Write that he bought in 1986). He had
someone upgrade him, so that he is now on WinXP. The problem with
Professional Write is that it is a DOS program with a limited number
of old printers it will print to. You guessed it, his old printer
died. He has a new printer, but it will not work with Professional
Write. All his legal documentation is in Prof Write.

I sent him Office 2003 and he installed it, however, nobody there was
able to copy from Prof Write to Word. Also, they were not able to
find where his Prof Write files were to send me one to work on. I had
discovered a program called FileMerlin which is supposed to be able to
convert from Prof Write to Word, but if they can't find his files,
they can't even try to use it.

This has gotten to be very frustrating coupled with the fact that
'Steve' has lost interest in even doing something, while Dennis is
still clueless (at least he admits it...)

So, this may be a very simple solution, however, it's a little too
long of a trip for me for a PC fix. This would most likely, given the
lack of skill onsite, require a visit. I don't know what Dennis is
willing to pay for help but if someone would want to give him a hand,
I'll give you his number and you can negotiate. Just make sure you
tell him I sent you.

Otherwise, I figure I'll just wait until he really decides to do
something....;-)

Thanks....Steve
