I don't think System Restore restores all files - it isn't an image,
just protection for key system files.
It restores everything back to what it was. It restores changed
files. I have never had it not work.
In my experience, Windows 8 is significantly more flaky than Windows
7, so you may have issues with System Restore in 8.
That is just windows BS myth by people who hate metro. I multi boot
my windows 7 ultimate with Windows 8.1 and once I had 8 set up I
never boot into 7 anymore. Windows 8 is much more secure and stable
then 7. It has been well documented that 8 works better and faster on
older hardware then 7. Yes, everybody went crazy over metro but
outside of that it is a much better OS then Win7. Once you use third
party software to deal with the start menu, and desktop
environment metro ain't that bad. I don't mind the metro environment
for specific apps which cost 1-3 dollars. Gone are the days when you
needed to spend 40 bucks on a specific use app. And there are lots of
good windows apps out there that I would never buy if I couldn't get
for a buck or so.
If you have windows 8.1 phone then you can use the apps on your
phone and your desktop. And One drive is synced effortlessly between
the two. A lot of the complaints about Win8.1 is whining from those
who haven't taken the time to learn how to use it, and disliked the
start menu from the moment they booted it up. The usual suspects who
still whine about how great Windows 2000 is.
Yes, it looks like 10 will be a winner and I am looking forward to
installing it in a year or so, but 8.1 has been a good upgrade from 7
for me, and has been unfairly criticized .. it's not that bad.
