I wish that I could give you a definitive answer based on personal experience with a sound meter but I can't. There are a few hardware sites scattered about that will actually do sound levels in their reviews but again YMMV. I use cheap low air flow Cooler Master fans in my CM690 and it's nowhere near irritating to me like a hair dryer would be (my ears are 53 years old too). LOL Agreed on the front button placement and the hardrive activity light. On the floor left hand side of your deck would be probably best to see hardrive activity. Should have been placed in the top panel along with the other ports. There really isn't any perfect place for that kind of stuff anyway because each user will have a different setup. Some may even have their case hidden behind wooden doors or in closets.

that is obvious but does not help.
Depends on the fans is why I am replacing my ancient Vantec Stealth ( not that stealthy anymore) with newer high flow LOW dBA levels. Very interesting case, do not like the power/reset button placement. (minor) but looks very well designed if not a little overkill on the fans but I have always been guilty of overkill myself :-) I'm thinking while top mounted PSU's are not necessary for case flow they certainly can not hurt but being mostly temp controlled on their fans sucking in hot air would make them run faster and can not be good for the PSU and make more noise.

I'm convinced bottom PSU is the way to go on new builds and I may even rebuild my main box with a new case to finally try and get that *quiet* box next to my desk. 8-)

You have the rear fan blowing in ???? seems counter productive for good ventilation.

That, my friend, depends on the fans being used. The number and placement make low CFM/RPM fans still effective. In fact, the loudest fan I have in
that CM690 is on my Radeon because I run it at 100%.

what is the noise level ?

I just had to reply again to this post as far as properly designed case
air flow is concerned. Take for example my CM690 with 8 fan placements
(I'm currently using 5 of them). The case came with a front mounted
120mm
fan that blows cool ambient air over the hardrives. The side cover will
mount 2 140mm fans which blow ambient air over the video cards, CPU
heatsink/fan, Northbridge and VRM MOSFET area. The rear mounted 120mm
fan
blows ambient air over the CPU heatsink as well. There is a mount for a 120mm fan on the bottom of the case, 2 120mm blowholes and even a small mount for behind the motherboard. Most of my wires are routed behind the mobo tray and with the PSU mounted on bottom I just don't see how it can
be ventilated more efficiently. It's made of steel and feels heavy as
lead
but I can't say enough good about this case and weight is the only
negative as far as I'm concerned.

looking at new cases and I see a lot with bottom PSU.

Lian Li Classic Series PC-9F caught my eye. Other then it pulls PSU
air
from outside the case and point to bottom PSU in case ?
Been partial to Supermicro cases but their service is the worse.

Always thought the PSU helped ventilate the case. with those nice big
bottom fans.

Happy Halloween
