Gaffer,
I understand. I will now look Lexmark.
And, I will offer my old printer to my Brother-In-Law.
He is an industrial electronics technician.
Should he choose to fix, he nets a very nice small
laser printer! And, I can gift him a new drum module,
and a new toner cart. for free. I like this picture ATM!

Gaffer,
Caps again? Power supply? Darn! This never entered my thoughts.
Thank you.
I recall. But, trying to take this thing apart is a major pain. I
think this printer was built as a complete toss-away! I'll think some
more. Until the "GO" button fails, I can still get prints out of it
ATM!
I agree that its a pain to get at the mainboard ! After that its an
easy repair job. Five caps on the last one that I repaired were
replaced. Two obviously bulging and three that measured bad, having a
high ESR. Two others were suspect but tested Ok.

At this point, believe I will trundle the printer up the road to a
Brother Certified service station (local). Yes, I suppose the repair
bill may be 2x what I paid for the printer, but, I still have a spare
drum module and a spare toner cart. for it. And, I don't believe I
can do a swap/return.
I don't have a clue what they would charge you but your probably right !
It seems that repair costs are designed to push you towards buying a new
one rather than repair.

Just today I bought a new power socket from the manufacturers for a
common laptop, the client never batted an eyelid ! But I choked at
nearly £50 ($75) delivered.

Am now looking at the Brother 5370DW as an upgrade/replacement.
Best,
Duncan
