I had been following the price of this drive on Amazon for while...the drive with the case was $150...I have no idea why the bare drive could cost that much....but while they were offering the 3TB drive for 150, they were offering the 2TB drive for $100....so that was $50/TB. Now they have dropped the price to 3TB/$130 (what I paid) I had to jump.

Frankly, I like the enclosure WD is using. Light weight, cool. Stands nicely and look nice. Super quiet. Crystal Disk Info says it temp is 40degC. I have a Seagate Free Agent (500GB, USB 3.0, old) that is currently running at 55C. I don't know what's up with that, though. I don't remember this driving running so hot prior to now....I keep all of my music on it...I think I'd better copy it off just in case...

if you read my message I was quoting the bear drive price of $150.

it baffles me how they can offer these for $137 if the sata300 bare drive is
$150 dollars. The 2TB price makes more sense at $99 dollars where the bare
drive is $79 dollars.

most certainly a mere $40 dollars spread between the 2 drives does make the
3TB version attractive vs. being nearly double the price.

personally I would still spend the $150 (drive+case) to make my own 3TB
external vs. the $137 premade model. since currently the bare drive is $150
that does not seem possible. hell given that crazy price scheme one would be
better off buying the external to rip apart an use as an internal.
