Looks like heat is a big factor in failure for these external drives. The
3T WDs are not very well reviewed on newEgg and Amazon. hmmm... maybe a 2T
drive would be more reliable?

I have a pair of seagate 1.5 tb usb drives, I've been using for the past
year.
Other than they need a lot of ventalation, they've been flawless.
