I have not done a memory test so I will try that.

I will download Ubuntu live at the weekend and try that as well.

I haven't done a fresh install. I have been trying to avoid that, to be
honest I wish I had done it the first day I noticed the issue :-( I think I
may have to do this but everything else is fine so this would be the last
thing to try. I also haven't tried doing a copy in safe mode. I can't reboot
at the moment, but when I reboot tomorrow I will jump into safe mode and try
the copy (not sure why I haven't thought of that one before LOL).
