Gaffer,
Can I maybe get back to you off List at the addy I see?
I know I will do this project regardless of cost. Sort of
something I need to do just for myself.
Yes, I will deal with cables (that I believe I have).
Yes, I will deal with cable terminators (that I 'think' I have).
Right now, I have a linear space issue to deal with.
ATM, the machine in question runs fine. I just wish to push
it up a notch one last time. U320 is out. I believe that my
drive choices are all U160 LVD/SE. Still re-reading this.
I will settle for 80MB/sec transfers. Or, whatever the 29160
allows; at a stable bus speed. Not going for 'race-horse' here.

The problem is that the root drive (c:\), at 9GB, may be
"XPpro'd" out!
No. Win7 is not an option ATM.
This machine is a LAN client on a WinXPpro LAN.
I do so still enjoy watching and listening to this old stack
boot up and come live. It reminds me of the many
old happy memories with my IT5H and its' P166.
Fine. Call me nostalgic on this project.
Silly perhaps.
Thank you for your shares.
Best of the season,
Duncan

Gaffer,
At the risk of local flames, Josh quit SCSI cuz it got too expensive.
Most everybody else in our Collective did too for the same
reason!
Yes scsi is expensive without a doubt !

I understand; and, agree. All my 'stuff' is old (+10yrs).
I keep at it cuz I've been in it/using it since 1972.
No harm! No foul! Please!
'Tis the Season to be jolly!!!!
Like you I started with scsi way way back. At that time scsi just out
performed other disk drive technologies. Long before networking became
common it was practical to be able to share multiple drives across
multiple machines.

I keep at this because my project PC has already accepted an
Adaptec 29160 controller. This gives me the best chance of
success I believe.

Sadly, my root drive (9GB) is running short of room w/WinXP.
I've culled as much as I feel comfortable with ATM.
Upto getting the four 15K Seagates my biggest drive was 2 x 4Gb + 1 x
9Gb + 1 x 36Gb. I had and still have 2 scsi CD drives, 1 a reader and
1 a writer.

I am doing case research now. Not sure I can play the cables
needed to do proper LVD/SE for the new planned drives.
Yes, the planned drives are old drives used for many past years.
Thank you for the response.
Best of the Season,
Duncan
The cables are very pricey as well but they are usually good quality and
trouble free. The ability to stick 15 devices onto the bus is very
handy. Make sure that you use an active termination for best
performance.
