Again, no company has an obligation to support its competition. It's not their job. If you don't license to earn income, then why bother? MS is clearly interested in deriving functions from products that are already being made, so for them to accept a license after the fact makes total sense.

I think Anthony will argue that when Apple stifles competition with patents, that means they are simply making the product people want and are generously removing the irritation of decision making from potential customers. :)
