all the big sellers, dell, gateway, etc, were being charged for windows
for every box sold. If they didn't, they'd be put out of business. And
let us not forget IE vs Netscape.

BTW, to my knowledge, nobody was forced to install Windows on a PC.
I've sold plenty of PCs with no Windows over the years.
