Sorry I fully agree with Christopher, no disrespect intended. I've had a few
tablets (still use my rooted Viewsonic G-tab all the time -running
cyanogenmod).
I've had a handful of android phones and 6 different tablets. 5 of the 6
tablets
were rooted and flashed with ROMs that made them a lot faster and gave extra
stability and features. All of the phones were/are flashed with custom ROMs
(just updated my sons optimus-v to ICS this past weekend). There are some
crappy, unstable ROMs that would give a bad experience so it is vital to do the
research first before choosing one. If I still had a kindle fire I would have
flashed it (ex-wife got it). Some of us oldtimers started on the overclockers
list which was all about getting the most out of your equipment by tinkering
and
overclocking, not just buying a better computer. I think this still holds true
with the next generation of gadgets.

I do also love the specs of the Nexus 7 and if I get another tablet in the
future, that will be the one. For the price it can't be beat. I would most
likely flash it with some better custom roms down the road though.

lopaka

Subject: Re: [H] Kindle Fire w/Jelly Bean & Nexus Interface

while I'm glad you have the link to help existing owners of the kindle
fire, I have to say that I disagree with your comment

I find that It's worth buying the $200 Nexus 7. You stand a better chance
of getting the next OS upgrade by buying the Nexus 7, and unless you like
the tinkering and rooting around a device just to get a less than ideal
user experience. I'm glad that you were able to gain some functionality of
your older kindle fire, but really it's not worth the recommendation...

I've played on the nexus 7 and it works very nicely, I recommend it as a
small tablet for users who don't want to pay $400 for other tablets.
