Konigsburg, The Mysterious Edge of the Heroic World (although I have 
to admit I couldn't get into it; will try again in the future); Jean 
Merrill, The Pushcart War (an older classic; kids love it). I know 
only the first is about Israel, but thought I'd mention the other two as well.
