Judy, You can’t assume that. In my county (Gwinnett County, GA), the library board wanted to preserve Sunday hours (non to 5:00 pm) so they monkeyed with a number of plans, and ended up with ‘paired’ nearby branches. One is open until 8pm on Monday and Wednesday, while the other is open until 8:00pm on the alternate nights.
Their rationale was that Sunday was a VERY heavy use day and kids still had homework due on Monday. And a nearby library open at night – even if it weren’t the nearest – was better than none. And they have done things like only being open 10-3 on Fridays. Some libraries have been creative about budgets and maintaining hours.
