Javier Del Barco compiled the latest catalogue of Hebrew mss. at the BNF; perhaps he is the person to go to with a specific question. (Do not have e-mail.) It has been my experience that, when dealing with the BNF, you go *direct* to the top of the department you wish to work with. In this case, do not go to a Judaica specialist (too far down the hierarchy); go to the head of the mss. department, who will pass the request/inquiry on to the person responsible for Judaica. That's just a general hint about the best way to approach this huge institution. Note that on the department's web page there is no breakdown of professional staff or directory or indications of how to reach an individual. This is alas a very French characteristic. The other thing to note is that one should always write to the BNF *in French* or some reasonable facsimile thereof. Also: summer is not a good time start corresponding with the staff there. They are simply deluged with requests from American (and other foreign) researchers. The best thing to do is write well in advance of one's visit, with an explanation of the research request; that will get the ball rolling. Scott Sheidlower Assoc. I have a graduate student who is looking to access manuscripts at the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, but we are having trouble finding contact information for the person who deals with the Judaica specifically. Does anyone know if there is a Judaica curator (or its equivelent) at the BnF? Thank you very much, Michelle Michelle Chesner Norman E.
