This book is an extensively researched historical document. In chronological order, it describes the events that culminated in Israel's creation, including statements and actions of the people who participated in those events. *Abstract* Prof. Casif considers the struggle to establish a Jewish state as a struggle for power within the future state. This point of view provides new insight into events such as the "rebellion" of the Irgun, the "Saison," the cooperation between Zionist undergrounds from the fall of 1945 through the summer of 1946, the King David Hotel explosion in July 1946, the formation of "The People's Committee" in April 1948, and the declaration of independence in May 1948. Reading Dr. Casif's book is a very informative, educational experience.
