As of now the outcome is positive. The SRRT leadership withdrew the resolution on divestment at the council meeting II this morning and then Mr. Kagan wasn’t able to convince the members of the International Relations Committee to endorse his resolution on the destruction of schools and libraries in Gaza in 2014 at their meeting this afternoon.
He could bring this resolution at the Council meeting III tomorrow morning but it seems very unlikely that he will after the comments made at that meeting. Let’s see what he does in San Francisco at the annual meeting. In the meantime, thanks to all who were concerned and gave of their time and effort. Much, much appreciated. Her post used the term "occupation" in a way that assumed a universally acknowledged fact, although many of us feel strongly that the word "occupation," without taking any context into account, is often an anti-Israel propaganda tool bandied about by the media. That is why I was surprised that the moderator posted that comment. This is not the first time a hot button issue like this has come up, and I remember reading a post saying that everyone should stay away from politics, so nobody feels offended. In discussing the ALA resolution to divest, we were working together against a pointless and often anti-Semitic action. That is in the spirit of AJL and HaSafran, and I hope there is a positive outcome. Once again, I am sorry that my comment hurt or offended anyone.
