I do have both volumes in our Temple library. This thread prompted me to
compare them. The comparison would make an interesting study! The
illustrations, paging and layout were exactly the same until the last few
chapters. But the writing was different, even the captions with every
illustration were different as were the titles of the chapters. Just
fascinating.

I, too, had never read the intro and didn't realize it was targeted for a
Christian audience. I've had this book in my home library for many years and
always loved sharing it with my grandchildren. The stories are well written
and the illustrations are excellent. It would be interesting for someone who
owns both versions to compare the writing and illustrations, since they have
different authors and illustrators.

By the way, my edition does include a chapter on Isaiah.

Yep, they are almost identical but there are differences. The painting of

I never realized it either. Note that there is a difference between DK's
The Illustrated Jewish Bible for Children and DK's The Children's
Illustrated Jewish Bible (with CD). The Illustrated Jewish Bible for
Children is the one for Christians which talks about the Old and New
Testament. The other title actually explains why Jews do not call it the Old
Testament and is clearly written for Jews.

Thanks for sharing this as I will now remove the first one from our
collection.

I just looked at the book's introduction. It is a book about the Jewish
Bible-- for Christian Children--it's title is misleading. I wonder whether
the rabbi who wrote the foreward was aware of this. I've seen this
phenomenon numerous times in books on Israel or the Middle East -- scholars
get their names attached as consultants but there is no way they could have
been aware of what the books really said!

Has anyone had complaints about the Illustrated Jewish Bible for Children
published by DK Publishing? Does it have Christian content? Seeing mixed
reviews online and wanted to get the groups feedback.

Thanks!
