Last summer we actually paid for a service to come to the synagogue to pick up and recycle over 700 pounds of VHS tapes, audio-tapes, and CDs that had been collecting dust and taking up space in the library, schools, offices and storage closets. It wasn’t cheap but I felt confident that NOBODY wanted this stuff. It had no resale/historical/archival value. Our only other option was to put it all in the dumpster but then it would end up in a landfill which didn’t sit right with me. Luckily, our executive director agreed and the funding did not come out of the library budget!
