Dear colleagues, As Susan Pankowsky posted, my dear "boss" and colleague, Jean Lettofsky, passed away after a long illness. I and a number of Cleveland area librarians, mostly retired, managed to attend her funeral. Jean and her husband Alan were very active members of the Cleveland Jewish community and the service overflowed with emotion and tributes.
Although I left the Cleveland area and moved to Ann Arbor 14 years ago when I retired, Jean's life and my life were thoroughly entwined for 30 years and I miss her greatly. Her skills with languages and her knowledge of Judaica enriched all around her. Her kindness and generosity of spirit made the Aaron Garber Library of Siegal College a very special place. https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.clevelandjewishnews.com/community/lifecycles/obituaries/lettofsky-jean/article_aeb42ad0-768b-11ee-b38c-2351ae9b5327.html__;!!KGKeukY!2TU7Ha9NxGKBVbp3FfzMa35KZh4FjwdZmPNY4epTZF3qOj9ryKlmoLBNLL1PTMjssaXdgK7E2_wmoaKFrfKGfk4Q$ With Jean's death, I feel my generation of AJL is passing, a generation that managed to communicate and maintain an organization operating without financing, email, text, blogs, podcasts or the latest format, zoom. But we built a library community that grew into the more active and vibrant organization that all of you have developed. Hazel Karp and Barbara Leff, among others, welcomed me to AJL in the early 1980s and were stalwart supporters of Judaica Librarianship. Both have since passed on. We miss Lillian Schwartz and Toby Rossner, also departed colleagues and friends. Merrily F.
