Folks, I've put my 'Record in Haskell' proposal on the wiki http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/wiki/Records as suggestion 5 Declared Overloaded Record Fields. Thanks to the voiciferousness on this thread, dot notation is completely optional. Feedback welcome.
