You're right, I missed that flag. But I've just built hdf again with
this flags:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/hdf5 --enable-fortran --enable-cxx
--with-default-api-version=v16
and now libhdf_fortran is present in /usr/local/hdf5/lib

Hi Paco,
My guess is that you didn't compile the Fortran API when installing
the library. Perhaps you missed to pass the --enable-fortran flag to
configure (check configure --help). I would re-build the library or
check whether your Unix Linux distro has an independent package for
fortran. Hope this helps.
