I guess I've failed to communicate my point here. :(
When talking about storage there are always two extra data points: time and
growth. Administrators are going to use this pie chart in presentations. Then
use it again in 6 months. It ends being a horrible comparison because unless
the usage of the cluster hasn't changed dramatically, it doesn't really convey
much information. Given that the tool tip is required really underscores this
point.
Additionally, if I have more than one cluster, I'm going to pull up both NN UIs
and look at both charts simultaneously. Again, this doesn't really convey much
information other than maybe the usage patterns are similar. It doesn't convey
an actual size.
There's also a potential accessibility problem here, but we should probably
consult with an expert.
As an alternative, I think I'd much rather have a bar chart where some actual
numeric information can also be provided without requiring tool tips. The
units will also give a much better sense of quantity. Comparing static bar
charts over time is also significantly easier.
