Jing Zhao commented on HDFS-2802:
---------------------------------

bq. What are your thoughts on the timeline for this? I've been assuming that
we'd wait at least a few weeks for the snapshots work to soak in trunk a bit
before back-porting to branch-2 as we've done in the past with other large
features like this.

The timeline would be based on some of the discussions in dev threads. We would
like to get this done ASAP. In the meanwhile, we will be doing extensive tests
and run the test plan (attached in this jira) along with more QA validation.
This will take some time.

> Snapshots are point in time images of parts of the filesystem or the entire
> filesystem. Snapshots can be a read-only or a read-write point in time copy
> of the filesystem. There are several use cases for snapshots in HDFS. I will
> post a detailed write-up soon with with more information.
