Do you mean that the MATE desktop has not been working for 1 year for you? I have reinstalled Guix with the MATE desktop 2 months ago and it works. My last update is from October 27th. I even noticed some great improvement: all applets that are available in Trisquel MATE desktop are now available in Guix as well. On your problem, sorry, my level of understanding of Guix is too limited to have any clue. I often have no clue why something stops or starts working, sometimes even while I did not do any update.
