or did you additionally install other mate packages?





If that is the case, I could remove mate completely
do a guix gc (garbage collection) to get rid of the old packages
then doing a system update (config.scm)
and install mate again.

I don´t know if that would help.
Some Guixers would be able to know that.

did you install only the "mate 1.28.2"(MATE desktop environment) and you got now more packages included, I installed 3,5 years ago "mate" (MATE desktop environment) and additional mate packages. In the meantime several mate package were may be included in the "mate"(MATE desktop environment) package and may be that´s why now I am getting into trouble.

applets that are available in Trisquel MATE desktop are now available in
Guix as well.

Do you mean that the MATE desktop has not been working for 1 year for you? I have reinstalled Guix with the MATE desktop 2 months ago and it works. My last update is from October 27th. I even noticed some great improvement: all On your problem, sorry, my level of understanding of Guix is too limited to have any clue. I often have no clue why something stops or starts working,
