Group,
Attempting to create a *.dvi file from the *.tex file included in
texinfo-4.0.tar.gz
cd texinfo-4/doc
texi2dvi texinfo.tex
Instead of the expected several pages of output ending in a nice *.div
I get:
------
This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.3.1)
(/mnt/pack/tar/texinfo-4.0/doc/doc-work/texinfo.tex

I don't know what to do at that question mark but pressing "q" results in:
/usr/bin/texi2dvi: see texinfo.log for errors.
That log contains many entries of the form:
? q
OK, entering \batchmode...
! Missing number, treated as zero.
<to be read again>
=
l.1225 \textfonts
A number should have been here; I inserted `0'.
(If you can't figure out why I needed to see a number,
look up `weird error' in the index to The TeXbook.)
! Undefined control sequence.
\resetmathfonts ...tfam = \tenit \textfont \slfam
= \tensl \textfont
\bffam ... l.1225 \textfonts
The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have
misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct
spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue,
and I'll forget about whatever was undefined.
Anyone recognize the problem here?
There are many more entries in the log that I can post if necessary, its
quite long though.
