Hi Amir, It's mandatory because some services (smtp, for example) carry a potential for abuse. In case of a problem or dispute we need to be able to reliably contact our customers. As we serve customers from all over the world, we have found no other reliable means of identification than payment details. Of course, we're always looking at new ways of providing those details to us so that people can use the methods they feel most comfortable with.
