Yeah, Velcro helps deal with the whole shear and tension issue. That would be incredibly easy to set up on the Playa, with very little long term maintenance.
The trouble I've had with Velcro, particularly the industrial quality stuff, is that the bond that develops between the paired Velcro sides is often stronger than the bond between the Velcro adhesive backing and whatever it is stuck to, so when I've tried to pull a Velcro seam apart, the entire joint just rips away from the surface on which it was stuck. This can be overcome using stronger adhesives and/or sewing, but with R-MAX this would definitely be a show stopper. The Velcro would just tear away from the panel, pulling the reflective coating with it.
