Sasha,

I have a PDF on cottoning tips
You can find it on
http://www.hurdygurdy.org
Click on "Resources" on the home page
Its the bottom item

The most important thing is clean hands and gossamer thin cotton
Just slip the end under the string
Turn the wheel and it should just whizz on

We all went thro the cottoning nightmare

You could also look at Neil Brook's excellent tips at
http://freespace.virgin.net/hurdy.gurdy/hurdy%20gurdy%20tips.html
There is also a cottoning video there

good luck !

Subject: [HG] new hurdy gurdy player / players nearby?

Hi All,

I'm a composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who has recently fallen for the hurdy gurdy. I'm in central Connecticut, USA and I was wondering if anyone knew of any hurdy gurdy players in my state, Connecticut, or in Massachusetts, New York or Vermont that I could take a few lessons from.

I recently acquired a hurdy gurdy from Helmut Gotschy and it sounded great and I was doing fine with it, until I tried recottoning. I have the Muskett & Destrem books and a bunch of other website info but still having problems with getting the cotton right and sounding as good as it did before I attempted this. I think I need to see someone do it. Please help.

Thanks so much,

Sasha Bogdanowitsch
