but to be honest it isn't getting much use. I guess that means that people just prefer getting things in their inbox.

I agree that I'd like to have better archiving.
But that's the only thing I agree with. I want messages pushed to me, I don't want to have to go look for them.
I, for one, will not use a forum type system. It isn't from lack of understanding them -- I'm a software developer, and there are several that I use to get support for various tools and applications I use at work. I find them uniformly slow and cumbersome to use, and difficult to navigate. My delete key is a lot faster for messages I'm not interested in than the time it takes just to log in to yet another site that requires me to keep track of a username and password.--

Subject: [HG] bbs?
Dear hurdy gurdy gals and guys,I hope that this note finds you all well.Like, perhaps many of you, I have had an on-again-off-again relationship with this email list. I have found myself at times, enjoying it, cursing it, laughing at (er, it mean with) it, rolling my eyes at it, and often un-subscribing from it because it just drives me nuts. Perhaps you have some of these symptoms:- small floods of messages regarding things in which you have no interest whatsoever?- frequent urges to scream at the messages asking questions that have been asked and answered before? Sometimes MANY times before? (i.e. no archive and search feature)- the wish to have messages better organised by subject/thread/category? (i.e. if you are only interested in historical stuff, you can look at that only. Or if you have no interest in the latest plywood contraption from Ebay, you can avoid that)- the desire to view and respond to messages how and when you want to rather than have them come tumbling into your inbox willy-nilly? And not to have to set filters etc. so that you don't get HG-list messages filling up your Blackberry or whatever when you're on the road?- etc. etc.My I propose that we move to a bulletin board system instead of an email list? I'm sure that you are all familiar with BBSs, so you have an idea of what I'm proposing. For those who still really want email, they can chose to have all messages on a certain thread forwarded to the address that they specify in the registration.Of course I would like to know what you all think of this idea - I would love to do a poll (something that is simple on a BBS) rather than have you all write into the email list (further clogging up our in-boxes!). I think that this would only really work if everyone on the list migrated to the BBS. It would be a shame to have a BBS that puttered out for lack of participation as it would be a shame for the current BBS.If you want to have a look at what I have in mind, I've set one up for us (a start anyway) at http://www.macrophone.org/hgIf you like what you see, please go ahead and register. I've made a guess as to how is should be set up, but I welcome your input and suggestions. Thanks and best regards,ben-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-Ben GrossmanAIM: drehleierguy
