I was just visiting New York City this weekend (no Melissa sightings, unfortunately!) and checked out the musical instrument exhibit at the Metropolitan , and there was at least one Melophone--it's a free reed instrument with the bellows somewhat concealed in a guitar-shaped body. If I recall correctly, it was invented by a Parisian in around the middle of the 18th century. Only made for a brief while (think eight-track tapes)....It was comforting to see what a mess it looked when opened up--makes HG maintenance seem like a breeze (oops, pun unintended...)

Nan

Does anyone know what the Melophone on that site is? I've tried googling Melophone but only come up with brass instruments, which that clearly isn't.
Cheers
