Hi Roddy, I have just come back from a hurdy gurdy course with Marc Egea, a fantastic hurdy gurdy players. He plays frequently with Valentin Clastrier.
He says the following strings are the best: "Ok. The strings for the drones: For the G1=> Cello G Thomastic Dominant (light). For the C2=> Cello C Thomastic Dominant (medium)." I am a beginner myself ............ and searching to find answers for a million and more questions.
