Here is the reply from John for everyone who sent information. I add my thanks as well.

All the Best,
Barbara

Wow.

I want to thank ALL who replied to my plea for help on this piece of music.
I have learned so much, and gotten so many possibles in return that I now
have a great deal to choose from.

Thank you!

Josquin Despres' motet is most likely the one he author of the play was
referring to. But there are two other likely possibilities that stand almost
as large (Orlande de Lassus & Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina). There are a
few others, too.

Now I have choices. Real choices.

I will listen to all of them. If I can't find recordings, I'll seek out the
sheet music. Then I can decide which one (or ones) will suit my needs best.

Again, thank you all!

(I will also be thanking individuals as I compile the info from each email.)

Warmest regards,

John

Good day, Gentlefolk,

I have an informational request from a community theater director here in Oregon. If you can help him and you'd like to communicate with John directly, please reply to me and I'll send you his email address.

Thank you,

Hi, all!

Do you know 10th thru 16th Century religious music? Do you know someone who does??

I am seeking [only] replies from those who actually know of a "De Profundis" that dates from NO LATER THAN the 16th century.

I'm having lots of difficulties focusing Google searches to only return results focused on the period I am seeking (16th C. OR EARLIER). All I've found is Gregorian Chant, and that's 5-6 centuries before the [latest] period I am concerned about.

Maybe there isn't anything between Gregorian and the 17th century, but I'd really like to know with more definitely.

Can you help?
