Hi David,
It is a fine tuner for the bass drone. If you slide it towards the
crank end of things it forces the string upwards and gives it extra
tension, raising the pitch. Conversely, if you slide it away from
that end it lowers the tension and drops the pitch. It's a very
effective system for fine tuning the drone because you can tweak it
ever so slightly if you want. Actually much easier than trying to
zero in on the pitch with a friction peg.

about the tekero. What is the purpose of the chess pawn sized
piece that the bass drone string runs through that is located
between the bass drone bridge and the tail end of the string? I
see that the horse shaped piece is the bass drone bridge, but I
don't understand the purpose of the pawn piece.
