The links worked fine for me (Windows Media Player v11). An M3U file is
playlist file that points to a music file (mp3) so you'll need to click on the
links directly rather than trying to download them.

Very pleasant listening, Matthew. Thanks

Scott

  Hi Maarten
Sorry about that! Here's a comment from my web person, which may be of help
to others on the list experiencing similar difficulties.
Let me know off-list if you still have trouble, and I'll find another way of
getting you the samples.
  Matthew

    Hi Matthew,

Unfortunately there isn't a standard music format guaranteed to work on all
platforms/operating systems of whatever age. If there was everyone would use
it! This problem of formats, versions and compatibility applies to virtually
everything on a computer.

M3U is a flexible solution that doesn't impose a media player on the user
but fires up the user's own default player for M3U/MP3 files. Furthermore it
allows (pseudo) streaming of those files so that the media player starts
playing the track as soon as enough of it has buffered.

As far as Windows Media Player is concerned, according to Microsoft M3U is
supported from versions 7 onwards (we're now up to version 11). MP3 itself is
only supported from version 7 onwards so if they can't play M3U they won't be
able to play MP3 anyway! Version 7 has been around since the year 2000 so it
would interesting to know what version your recipient is using and what (if
any) error messages are being reported.

In any event, I would recommended that your recipient upgrade their version
of Windows Media Player (and make it the default player for MP3 and M3U files).
For Windows XP, it can be downloaded from:
