I'll agree with Nathan on this.  Get Helmut to send you some dog blanks.

It's possible to shim the slot, but it's much easier to make a new dog.  Keep
the old one - you may find that as the weather changes back to warmer and
wetter that your "winter dog" doesn't work anymore and you'll need to change
back to your "summer dog".

Making your first dog is a bit daunting, but it gets easier with time and
practice (like most things).
