Well he's certainly gripping the "handle" and seems to be pressing something with his left hand (keys?) and the fiddle, harp and psaltery are identifiable (ignore the two bridges on the HGLO perhaps - and lack of wheel) - could it be a symphony/gurdy combo? Organistrum reduced to fit the scene? I think it must be a cranked instrument as the chap with the fiddle is holding his "correctly" with his left hand. The HG won't get much of a coup with that way though (I know it wasn't done then, just a joke).
Interesting. I wonder what the source is and the date?

Guy number 2 in the lower half.

Is this a strange lute thing, or is it a bad depiction of a gurdy? That is either a crank or a cranked neck. Any guesses?

Cause if it is some general shape of gurdy, just without details depicted, I think I have found what I am looking for in size and shape and soundholes and such.

Thanks

Chris
